Community guidelines

Updated over 3 months ago

Welcome to Bump, the app that brings you closer to your people. Bump is more than just a map. It’s a community. Following these guidelines helps keep it a place where you always feel safe with your friends.

We want you to read every word below (otherwise, we wouldn’t have written it!). But if you only remember two things, let them be this:

If you’re about to do something on Bump that you wouldn’t want done to you (or someone you care about), then it’s probably not okay. So, don’t do it!

If you don’t agree with any of these guidelines, Bump isn’t the right app for you, and we’d recommend not using it.

Add only friends you know in real life

Bump is designed to be a private space for real-life connections.

  • Only add people you already know in real life

  • Don’t send multiple friend requests to the same person

  • Don’t pressure anyone to accept your friend request or to keep their location on

  • Don’t use Bump as a way to meet random people

Respect privacy

Everyone should feel in control of their own visibility.

  • Location is sensitive information, and some people, even those close to you may not want to share it. Respect that.

  • Don’t spam people with repeated friend requests, messages, stickers, etc.

  • Don’t share screenshots or recordings of someone’s live location without permission. Respect their information.

  • Use ghost mode when you want time off the map, and respect when others do the same

No hate, harassment, or abuse

We have zero tolerance for harmful behavior. And we mean zero.

  • No bullying, threats, stalking, or intimidation

  • No hate speech, racism, sexism, homophobia, or discrimination of any kind

  • No sexual harassment or unwanted attention

  • No targeting others through usernames, stickers, or intros

If someone makes you feel unsafe, block them immediately and report it (learn how below).

Non-consensual nudity

We have zero tolerance for non-consensual nudity. This includes:

  • Any nudity or sexual content shared without consent

  • Pornography involving people who didn’t agree to be filmed or shown

  • Content distributed without the knowledge or permission of those involved

Keep it clean

Creative and fun? Yes. Abusive or inappropriate? No.

  • Don’t upload or share graphic, sexual, or violent content

  • Don’t impersonate others or use fake names to trick people

  • Don’t use offensive usernames, or profile photos

Use Bump fairly

Bump works best when everyone plays by the same rules.

  • Don’t use unofficial or modified versions of the app

  • Don’t manipulate your scratch map or live location

  • Don’t aim for big numbers (like intros or number of friends) through spammy behavior

How to report and what happens

We take reports seriously and rely on the community to help keep Bump safe. Here’s exactly what happens:

Step 1: Block

If you come across inappropriate behavior or content, start by blocking the user.

  • Tap the three dots on their profile

  • Select Block

  • This immediately prevents them from contacting you, and sending friend requests.

Step 2: Report

Report it so we can investigate. You can:

  • Use the in-app Report button (preferred)

  • Or email us at [email protected] with details and screenshots

When reporting via email, please include:

  • Subject line: Safety report

  • The username and profile of the person

  • A description of the issue

  • Screenshots or screen recordings (if possible)

Step 3: Review

We review all received reports. We may contact you if we need more details.

Step 4: Action

Depending on the situation, we may:

  • Send a warning to the user

  • Remove inappropriate content (e.g. stickers, usernames)

  • Temporarily suspend an account

  • Permanently suspend an account

Zero Tolerance

The lists above aren’t exhaustive. Any behavior or content we believe makes Bump unsafe, harmful, or against the spirit of our community may result in action against your account.
