Ghost mode

Updated today

Ghost mode allows you to stop sharing your live location with a specific friend, without turning off your location for everyone. Unlike turning off location sharing entirely, Ghost Mode works one-on-one. You can stay visible to some friends while hiding from others.

What happens when Ghost Mode is enabled

  • Location stays frozen: Your pin remains at the last location you shared with that friend.

  • Only affects that friend's view: Ghost Mode changes what that friend can see. It doesn't pause location history for your own scratch map or Nights.

  • Private and silent: Friends aren't notified when you ghost or un-ghost them.

  • Battery level stays frozen: Your battery level won't update for that friend.

  • In-app status hidden: The green halo that shows you're currently in the app won't appear.

  • Time on the spot stops updating: Your time-on-the-spot information won't show for that friend.

  • Now Playing: When Ghost Mode is enabled for a friend, your Now Playing info also stops updating for them. They will see the last song that was showing before you enabled Ghost Mode. This applies only to that specific friend, other friends will still see your music as normal.

How to turn on and off Ghost Mode

  1. Tap your friend's pin on the map to open their info view

  2. Tap the ghost icon in the top-right corner 👻

  3. Long press the button to enable ghost mode to that friend

  4. To reappear on their map, tap the button to let them see your location again
