Map Stories: what's happening across your map

Updated this week

Map Stories shows you what's happening across your map. The kind of things that are easy to miss when you just glance at where your friends are. A friend arriving somewhere new, a group meeting up at a favorite spot, someone exploring a new city.

Unlocking Map Stories

Map Stories unlocks once you have 8 friends. Until then, the feature won't appear on your map.

How to open Map Stories

There are two ways to open Map Stories:

1. The globe / compass button (bottom-right of the map)

  • Globe icon: Map Stories are ready to view. Tap it to open them.

  • Compass icon: Your map isn't centered on your location yet. Tap the compass once to recenter your map and turn into the globe icon. Tap again to open your stories.

2. Tap the right side of the screen

From the main map, you can also just tap the right side of your screen to jump straight into Map Stories.

How Map Stories work

Once you've tapped the globe icon, you'll enter Map Stories view. Here's how to navigate:

  • Tap the right side of the screen to move to the next story.

  • Tap the left side of the screen to go back to the previous one.

  • Reply to a story by sending a message directly from it.

Privacy: can my friends see when I view a map story related to them?

No. Viewing a Map Story is completely private to you. Your friends have no way of knowing you've seen their story. There's no notification, no "seen by" indicator, and no signal of any kind on their side.

Map Stories only surfaces information that's already visible to you on the map based on your existing friendships. It doesn't reveal anything new about your friends that you couldn't already see by exploring the map yourself, it just makes those moments easier to spot.
